The ninth annual Flower and Garden Festival in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, has become a Guinness Book of World Records holder with an amazing floral carpet.

The 12,000 square metre carpet owes its existence to the hard work of expatriate Filipino workers. Landscape designer John Torio of the Sadeem Agricultural Company said “Hawak pa rin namin ang record,” John works for the Landscaping and Irrigation Department of the Royal Commission of Yanbu.

The flowers used in the carpet were grown by Sadeem Agriculture Company where numerous Filipinos work – so in essence it is a magnificent group effort by the Filipino community of Saudi Arabia.

“We strike again. As we maintain our record as the largest flower carpet in the world with different types of beautiful flowers mostly contributed by Filipinos from designing to execution,” said project manage Rolando Alcantara.

Hamza Al-Khosial , Royal Commission Section Manager of the Landscapping & Irrigation Department, said their Filipino workers are their partners in making the flower festival a success.
