Police say they arrested a man in Bukidnon after finding him in possession of fake American dollars.

Gernabe Melig was arrested in an eatery in the town of Manolo Fortrich for possession of the counterfeit money.

Melig did not know but he had been under surveillance for almost two weeks before the swoop.

Melig says he is an employee of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – he is stating that the money was for a client and they (the fake money) was originally from Davao City where he was to hand them to someone, nothing more.

In his possession were 1,264 fake $100 US dollar bills – the suspect will face charges for illegal possession and use of false treasury and bank notes.
