Filipino-American returns to face justice after woman’s body dumped in river

Jonathan Dewayne Viane is one of two suspects in the killing of Aika Mojica in July 2015.

Mojica’s body was found dumped in a dyke in Santo Tomas River in Zambales – she had been shot twice in the head.

Authorities claim Viane was talking to Majoica on the night she disappeared, convincing her to allow him to bring their four-year-old son with him to the United States.

Police also note that Viane calculated the murder as he had an aeroplane return ticket back to the US the next day – the same day Mojica was discovered in the Santo Tomas River.

Police says Viane had an accomplice in the death of Mojica, one Nino dela Cruz. Dela Cruz had been arrested and charged with the murder at an earlier court hearing.

Viane was arrested in September 2015 in Iowa. His extradition has taken seven months, but today he is back on Philippine soil.

Viane is currently being detained at the NBI Office in Manila where he will await his transfer to Zambales to be presented before a judge there. He will face murder charges in relation to the death of Aika Mojica.
