68-year old father kills son after he strangled him in Catanduanes.
The 44-year old son died after his father repeatedly cut him with a bolo in their compound at Brgy. Sabangan, Caramoran, Catanduanes, dawn yesterday.
The victim was identified as Johnny Dela Cruz, married. Johnny was pronounced dead-on-arrival at Pandan District Hospital.
The suspect was Rogelio Dela Cruz, Johnny’s father.
Father kills son with a bolo
According to reports, Rogelio woke up when he heard his sons, Johnny and Isaw fighting at around 12:40 am. The two were both drunk.
Rogelio went out to confront the siblings who were fighting.
All of a sudden, Johnny attacked Rogelio and started to strangle him. Rogelio managed to escape, grabbed his bolo, and started to cut Johnny in different parts of his body.
It was not yet determined if Johnny’s bereaved family would push a homicide case against Rogelio.
Crime rate in the Philippines
In the Philippines, an average of 9.84 per 100,000 people is being murdered as of 2014. The country also has the highest murder rate in South-east Asia in 2013, followed by Thailand.
But since 2016, an average of 11% decrease in crime incidents was recorded during ‘ber’ months. National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Guillermo Eleazar boasted that this accomplishment is only part of the 58% reduction of criminal cases in Metro Manila under Duterte’s administration.
