The victims said they bought salted eggs from their neighbors and ate them the next day.

According to the report, the egg seller denied that the family was poisoned because of the salted eggs because they allegedly ate the leftovers, but they were not poisoned.

It was also learned that one of the alleged victims also ate a spoiled “tinola.”

The Provincial Health Office said that salmonella bacteria could have contaminated the salted eggs if it really caused the food poisoning.

A salted duck egg is a Chinese preserved food product made by soaking duck eggs in brine or packing each egg in damp, salted charcoal. In Asian supermarkets, these eggs are sometimes sold covered in a thick layer of salted charcoal paste.

In the Philippines, salted eggs are also known as ‘itlog na pula’ or red egg because it is usually dyed red to distinguished it from a regular egg.
