Face shields can be removed inside cinemas – DTI

Viewers can remove the face shield inside the cinemas, which are scheduled to reopen next week, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Thursday.

According to Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo, moviegoers can remove their face shields, but they must always wear their face masks.

If the moviegoer also wants, they can also wear their face shield while watching.

The OCTA Research Group, which conducts studies on COVID-19 data, previously supported the proposal to remove face shields inside cinemas.

According to Castelo, cinemas are required to disinfect before and after the film is released.

Also, under DTI guidelines, there should be a 1-meter distance between moviegoers even if they are family or together in the same residence.

It is said that food will be banned inside the cinema, but drinking water for emergency or health purposes will be allowed.

Cinemas in Metro Manila are scheduled to reopen on November 10.

According to Ayala Cinemas, they will open on November 10 but only in 8 malls.

Only vaccinated people can watch the movie, they said, with tickets ranging from P280 to P450.

On November 24 and 26, SM Cinemas will open in selected malls.

Robinsons Cinemas has not yet set a date when they will open, but they have made sure to follow the rules.

On the other hand, Ayala Malls insisted that they will follow the new mall hour starting November 15, where malls will open at 11 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends.

SM Malls will also be next at 11 a.m. opening.

Meanwhile, many members of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) are in favor of eliminating the use of the face shield, according to Malacañang.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed that the IATF is already talking about removing the  wear amid the drop in the COVID-19 case.

He said many in the IATF are saying that wearing the  should be stopped.

Dr. Edsel Salvaña added that it is still protection to wear a face shield as eye protection where the  can penetrate.
