Eight dead after bus and van collide in Eastern Samar

Eight people are dead, including a seven-year-old boy and a policewoman, after their tourist van collided with a DLTB bus in Quinapondan, Eastern Samar.

Initial reports only identify four of the eight killed in the accident, they include 17-year-old Jodie Ann Malindog, 24-year-old Rowena Malindog and Wendel Amande (age unknown) all from Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar. The fourth identification is PO1 Lea Caores, a policewoman assigned to the Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office. The remaining four people involved in the accident are so far unidentified.

Both the drivers of the bus and van, along with seven others were all injured in the accident. Police say the collision happened at 6.40pm on Sunday along the National Highway in Barangay Bagte, Quinapondan.

Under rules issued by the LTFRB, the bus and the van companies will automatically be suspended.
