ECQ in Tuguegarao extended for 1 week

The enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, will be extended for another 7 days starting this Sunday, according to Mayor Jefferson Soriano.

The city first underwent a 10-day ECQ from Aug. 12 to Aug. 21.

“As a compromise, [the] RIATF (Regional Inter-Agency Task Force) allowed us 10 days with a condition that if the situation will not improve, it will automatically be extended to 7 days… automatic extension because we did not improve,” said Soriano.

When the ECQ was re-implemented in Tuguegarao City, there were more than 700 active COVID-19 cases.

But according to the City Health Office on Saturday, the city has added 129 new COVID-19 cases to 1,255 active cases today.

The highest number was recorded in Barangay Ugac Norte with 119 active cases and Barangay San Gabriel with 96 active cases.

Carig Sur, Ugac Sur, Caggay, Cataggaman Nuevo, Caritan Centro, Pengue Ruyu, Atulayan Sur, and Leonarda are also among the most active cases.

Only Barangay Namabbalan Sur is now considered COVID-free in the city, according to Soriano.

Tuguegarao city government is also concerned about the increasing number of cases of office transmission or infection of COVID-19 in various government offices.

“Most of the transmission are in the workplace… Wipe out ang [Department of the Interior and Local Government]. [Department of Environment and Natural Resources] regional headquarter, wipe out din. [Department of Agriculture] ang nauna. Water district. Tig-20 ‘yan mahigit,” said Soriano.

The Tuguegarao City Council has already passed a resolution encouraging regional offices to assign a quarantine unit to their buildings.

The city government will also assign a Covid-19 inspection team that includes 1 volunteer councilor, 1 department head at the city hall, and 1 RIATF representative.

Their main duty is to go around government offices to remind about rules or protocols such as compliance with operational capacity or a set number of employees that can be admitted.

Due to the information that some residents are abusing the COVID Shield Control Pass, the city government will restrict its use. It is now necessary to obtain a barangay certification that states the user’s identity of the control pass and how long they will stay outside.

If he is an employee, in addition to the identification card, he must also present a certification that he is one of the employees admitted for the use of the control pass to be legitimate.
