What is an EBT Card?

The EBT card, or electronic benefit transfer card is a magnetically encoded payment card, which allows the state welfare departments to issue benefits. The card can only be used by US residents.

The card has been in operation since 2004. The holder of the card can make food purchases at authorized retail stores. The average payout is set at $125 per month per participant.
