Duterte says statement on VP bid meant to ‘scare’ opposition

President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement on running for vice president only meant to scare off the opposition, the president said Monday night.

However, Duterte said in his public address that he is still thinking of making this true.

Sabi ko let us see,” said Duterte.

“If it is good for our country, I will do it. If it does not contribute anything to our republic, ‘wag na lang. Magsasayang lang tayo ng oras pati… You contribute to the conundrum of the moment,” said Duterte.

Chief Presidential Legal Adviser Salvador Panelo once again advised him that there is nothing in the Constitution that prohibits it in case he runs.

According to Panelo, the opposition is just scared, so they are trying to put up the issue of his candidacy.

Duterte also confirmed that his daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio is open to running for the presidency in the next election.

But he still objected because he was worried about what would happen to her daughter once she sat in the seat.

“I want her spared from the vagaries of politics dito sa Pilipinas. Lalo na itong mga personalities around, in the likes of (Antonio) Trillanes (IV), si (Leila) De Lima.

He said that he would prefer the government to just go to the opposition to experience running the government.

“So I would rather na kung sila-sila na lang ang patakbuhin at sila’y manalo, nagdadasal ako niyan at makita nila kung papaano nila patakbuhin ang gobyerno, kung gaano kahirap,” said Duterte.

In an interview, Duterte-Carpio said that although she is open to running, there is still no discussion about her running mate.
