Meanwhile, DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya challenged the Makabayan Bloc and the CPP-NPA to surrender those involved in killing football player Kieth Absalon and his cousin in Masbate.

“The DILG challenges the Makabayan Bloc and their allied organizations to pressure the CPP-NPA to turn over those responsible and to condemn the CPP-NPA for manufacturing, stockpiling, transporting, and using anti-personnel mines all over the country,” he said.

Malaya also slammed the progressive bloc for urging the family of Kieth Absalon to file a complaint before the Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC).

“The Joint Monitoring Committee was disbanded many years back. It no longer exists,” Malaya said.

“It’s unfortunate that the Makabayan Bloc is misleading the Absalon family who is demanding justice for the death of Keith and Nolven Absalon,” he added.

Malaya said the Makabayan Bloc is giving the Absalon family false hopes.

Meanwhile, the mother of Kieth Absalon insisted that she would not receive any help from the CPP-NPA.

“Hindi ko na kailangan ang tulong nila na galing sa kanila para lang ako babayaran? Hindi na po, ayaw ko na… Batas na lang ang humusga,” said Vilma Absalon.

According to BAYAN secretary-general Renato Reyes and Kabataan Party-list, the death of 2 civilians in Masbate is a clear violation of international  law. Hence, they demand the resumption of peace talks.

Kieth Absalon belonged to starting 11 of Far Eastern University for UAAP Season 82.
