Duterte will run as vice president in 2022 elections

President Rodrigo Duterte himself said he would run for vice president in the 2022 national elections.

“Gusto talaga ninyo? O sige, tatakbo ako ng bise presidente. Then, I will continue the crusade. I’m worried about the drugs insurgency. Number one is insurgency, then criminality, drugs,” said Duterte on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the President admitted that he has a limit on his position if he wins as vice president.

“I may not have the power to give the direction or guidance, but I can always express my views in public for whatever it may be worth in the coming days. Nasa Pilipino na iyan,” he said.

The President did not mention who his running mate will be in the 2022 elections.

Before his announcement, Duterte has accepted PDP-Laban’s endorsement to run for vice president in the 2022 elections.

Executive vice president Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said Duterte accepted “the clamor of the people and accepted the endorsement of the PDP Laban Party for him to run as Vice President in the 2022 National Elections.”

The development came after the PDP-Laban-Cusi wing announced they adopted a resolution endorsing the Bong Go-Rodrigo Duterte tandem next year.

However, Go said he was “still not interested” to run for president.

“Nakatutok ako sa aking tungkulin bilang senador upang tulungan ang bansa na malampasan ang krisis na ating hinaharap. Bakuna muna bago pulitika. Mas mabuti unahin niyo na muna yung mga interesado na tumakbong Pangulo,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senator Richard Gordon did not like Duterte’s recent move.

“A vice president can go for reelection. Now, if the president runs for vice president, certainly, it will be up for the people to accept that. Ako sa akin, out of delicadeza, hindi ko gagawin yun,” he said.

“If the president is doing that. He will be followed by the other people in the country,” he added.
