Duterte: Names of rights advocates possibly included in anti-drug ops records

President Rodrigo Duterte reiterated that the records of the authorities’ anti-drug operations could not be made public.

He said that there is a lot of information that the public should not know, at the same time pointing out that it is possible that the records of the operation even include human rights advocates who are themselves questioning the drug war.

“Kung ayaw ninyo tumulong ’wag na magtakot diyan, magtakot-takot sa mga pulis na idemanda. Opening of records? Hindi nga pwede i-open iyan, kasi baka makita ninyo iyong pangalan ninyo, kayo pala ang nagbibigay ng impormasyon sa pulis,” said Duterte.

“That is why we cannot show it to you, you might find your name there, so iyan hindi pwede ibigay. Pero iyong engkwentro paano namatay, paano sinugod OK ’yan. Wala problema tayo diyan. Pero ’yong state secrets from the sources we get anywhere and everywhere, that cannot be divulged publicly. Means to say hindi niyo pwede tingnan.

“Ang problem diyan kapag nakita mo, pati tatay mo makita mo na pangalan diyan.”

It may be recalled that PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar recently agreed to open PNP records for the Department of Justice’s investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killings in the Duterte administration’s anti-drug campaign.

Meanwhile, Duterte urged human rights advocates to study the operations of the authorities before judging them carefully.

“Nakikiusap ako sa mga human rights, kindly take a deeper look into the drug situation. You would notice that there are really persons who die, almost daily because iyan ito lumaban talaga at hindi kasama ang pulis ko na may tama rin at namatay rin,” said Duterte.

He said that he had been investigated several times by the Commission on Human Rights and the Department of Justice under the leadership of Sen. Leila de Lima. Still, He said she found no anomalies in her war on drugs.

“Walang nangyari, walang rekomendasyon, wala lahat. Puro lang aspersion, mga salita na ganoon,” Duterte explained.

“Noong senado sa Congress inimbestigahan ako, wala ring nangyari. Kasi wala kayo maituro na mali. They died in police operations, hindi naman gago ang pulis na patay ng patay dito. Alam nila kung magpatay na walang rason makukulong talaga sila.”
