Duterte looks for an honest PNP chief, ‘maski bobo’

President Rodrigo Duterte said he simply wanted an honest man to be the next PNP chief, regardless if he is “bobo” or unintelligent.

President Duterte admitted that none of the three candidates was able to get his approval as the next PNP chief to replace resigned Gen. Oscar Albayalde.

The President said that the only thing he is looking for in the next PNP chief is pure honesty.

He also wanted a broader list of options to choose from in search of the next PNP chief.

Duterte said he does not need a well-decorated police officer or the most intelligent but just an honest one.

“Maski bobo ka, hindi ka number one sa klase mo noon with PNPA or PMA, even if you are the goat of the class, but if you are the honest guy, I will go for it,” said the President.

(Even if you are stupid, you are not the number one in your class in PNPA or PMA, even if you are the goat of the class, but if you are the honest guy, I will go for it.)

“I should have a wider choice, but ito ang maasahan ng, maasahan mo and to all of the Filipino people. My only consideration, the only standard, the only thing that I would ask for of the, of the next PNP chief is honesty,” Duterte added.

Three names were on the shortlist submitted to President: PNP officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan, and Major Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.

“Kung meron kang konting medyo, there’s a dent in your reputation, you’re done, wala pala. Out,”  President Duterte said.

While not on the shortlist, B / Gen Vicente Danao, who is currently the Calabarzon director, was also rumored to be a candidate for the PNP chief race.
