Duterte: ‘Consider me as a candidate for vice presidency’

“Consider me as a candidate for (the) vice presidency.” This was announced by President Rodrigo Duterte in his speech at the inauguration of the LRT2 East Extension Project on Thursday.

The president explained that his position as a candidate in the 2022 elections prevents him from becoming a “lame duck” president.

“Alam mo ‘yun… as a lame duck, posturing ‘yan. Political posturing so that they will not treat you badly,” the president explained.

“To maintain the equilibrium, consider me as a candidate for (the) vice presidency,” he added.

In politics, a president whose term is coming to an end is called a “lame duck” and his influence is slowly waning.

In a speech in March, Duterte admitted that he will soon become the lame duck president as his term in the Palace is approaching one year.

Duterte also seems to be preparing if he runs and wins vice president and the winning president is not with the party.

“Ngayon kung tatako ako Vice President, manalo ako, kung hindi ko kaalyado ang Presidente, all I have to do is to join the military and the police in the fight against crime, drugs and criminality,” he said.

“Also maybe go around Asean countries for a more cohesive relations between them,” he added.

Several of Duterte’s PDP-Laban party members encourage him to run for vice president in the 2022 elections. He will also be given the power to choose the future presidential candidate.

has another tension with Senator Manny Pacquiao, who said corruption in the current government has worsened.

“Bakit ngayon ka lang nagsalita at bakit umatras ka dun sa boxing fight? Kasi alam mo ‘pag matalo ka, you are a goner. Those are your inconsistencies,” Duterte said.

“Sit in Congress, finish and find out corruption. If not, you are a shit. A shit is a shit. Magtrabaho ka, do not go elsewhere… ‘Wag kang pa-absent-absent,” he added.
