Duterte still ‘against’ Mayor Sara running for president in 2022

President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his opposition to her daughter Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio running for president in the 2022 elections.

In his Talk to the People, the president said Sara should “run some other time.”

“My stand is that I am against really the candidacy of my daughter. I want her spared from the vagaries of politics,” Duterte said when told of Sara saying she was already open to running for president.

Duterte added he only said he would run for vice president to scare off his political opponents.

“Pantakot ko lang sa kanila ‘yan. Let us see if it is good for the country, I will do it. If it does not contribute anything to the republic, ‘wag na lang,” Duterte said.

Duterte said he would rather give the government to Trillanes and De Lima next year.

“I would rather na ibigay ang gobyerno sa kanila. Let them win. I wish them luck.  Para kanila na ‘tong gobyerno at gawin nila gusto nilang gawin,” Duterte said.

“I would rather na kung sila-sila na lang ang patakbuhin at sila ay manalo. Nagdadasal ako niyan para makita nila kung paano nila patakbuhin ang gobyerno,” he added.

“Tapos after all your pagod mo, walang katapusan na batikos because they can never be satisfied,” Duterte said.

During Mayor Sara’s visit to Cebu, the mayor was asked if he is open to running for the highest position in the country in the May 2022 elections.

“Opo,” the mayor answered.

“Ang importante sa ngayon ay malaman namin kung ano ang sentimyento ng mga tao at ano ang gusto ng mga tao,” she added.

In recent months, the mayor has been saying not to include her among personalities considered presidential candidates.

This is despite the actions of some groups to persuade her to run for president as the leader of the regional group Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

In April 2021 Pulse Asia Survey, Mayor Sara Duterte still leads a survey of possible presidential bets in 2022.
