Radio DJ and TV host KC Montero and around 100 people were arrested in Makati City over alleged violation of social distancing protocols, Sunday night.

Authorities said arrested individuals were caught drinking liquor, and several were not observing social distancing.

Montero, however, insisted that they observed social distancing inside the bar and restaurant.

“I think para sa mga tao na papunta diyan [those who want to go there], I think what they thought was it was open. So you’re allowed to go. And on top of that everybody was practicing social distancing. The tables were wide apart, were far apart,” he told reporters.

The owner and employees of the establishment were also arrested. There was no party held in the restaurant, the owner said.

Montero and other arrested customers were brought to the Brgy Guadalupe Nuevo Gym to maintain physical distancing.

Under government guidelines, bars are not yet allowed to operate in areas under GCQ. They will only be allowed to open in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) at reduced venue capacity.
