DILG: Cockfighting still banned in MGCQ, GCQ areas

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Friday clarified that cockfighting is still banned even most areas in the country are already under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ.

During the Laging Handa press briefing, DILG spokesman Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said the agency had received reports that some local government units (LGUs) already allowed cockfight in their areas.

(The DILG received reports from the regions that some LGUs released executive order which allows cockfighting operations.)

(DILG clarifies and reiterates that cockfighting is prohibited at this time. The IATF has not released a resolution allowing the operations of cockpit arenas or cockfighting nationwide.)

Malaya added that local government units should wait for the inter-agency task force’s advisory on cockfighting under the COVID-19 quarantine measures.

Mass gatherings like cockfighting are still prohibited under the protocols of MGCQ and GCQ.

Palace clarifies tricycles still banned in national highways

Malacañang on Thursday retracted its previous statement that sidecars are allowed in national highways to aid commuters amid the lack of public transportation in Metro Manila.

“Regarding the issue on tricycles/those similarly situated, Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano clarifies that although apprehension from the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) is temporarily suspended, such are still prohibited from traversing the national highways,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

During his regular online briefing, Roque said that sidecars are now allowed in national highways for areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ.

(Well, we have a new policy, sidecars are now allowed in national highways. This is to relieve the lack of transportation now that many areas are under GCQ and MGCQ.)
