A female driver in Pangasinan was injured after being stabbed by her passenger, a minor woman allegedly suffering from depression.
In a report by Claire Lacanilao on GMA Regional TV “Balitang Amianan” on Wednesday, the victim was identified as Lea Codera, 30, of Urdaneta City.
Authorities arrested the minor suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the crime.
According to the victim, the suspect booked for her and said they would go Novaliches.
But when the victim met the suspect, she said she would pick up a friend who actually booked her.
However, they allegedly went around for 40 minutes, but they did not see the alleged friend of the suspect.
The suspect then asked the female to return and said she would just pay for the fuel.
But when the female driver allegedly went back to the pick-up point, the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim.
Alleged depressed passenger stabs female driver
The victim managed to protect herself but sustained injuries to her hand.
“Sabi ko, ‘Maam ‘wag, may pamilya ako, may dalawang anak ako [please ma’am don’t, I have a family, I have two children],” the victim said.
According to the suspect’s father, his daughter is suffering from depression.
“Nung tinanong kung bakit niya nagawa ‘yon ang sabi niya sa akin hindi niya raw alam ang dahilan. Parang nawala raw yung isip niya,” the suspect’s father said.
(When asked why she did that, she told me she did not know the reason. She seems to have lost her mind.)
Despite this, the victim decided to file a case against the minor suspect.
“Hindi po dahilan ang depresyon para pumatay ng tao. Kung nakikita niyo ho ako sumusugal ako from Manila papuntang probinsiya para kumita ng pera para sa pamilya ko, tapos ganun lang ang gagawin niya,” the victim said.
(Depression is not a reason to kill people. If you see me, I put my life at stake on going from Manila to the province to earn money for my family, then that’s all she will do.)
