DepEd to summon teacher ‘insinuating a potential child abuse action’ in TikTok

The Department of Education (DepEd) will summon the teacher in a viral TikTok video for “insinuating a potential child abuse action.”

DepEd stated on Friday, Nov. 5, saying they are mandated to protect the rights of every Filipino student, and it “does not tolerate any forms of abuse towards children.”

Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones ordered the Regional Director of DepEd Central Luzon to “immediately investigate” a TikTok video of a particular teacher circulating on social media.

DepEd said the video of the teacher in TikTok is “insinuating a potential child abuse action,” thus, he must be meted with “appropriate sanctions” after the investigation.

It reminded its teachers and non-teaching personnel to “always subject our words and actions, including our social media activities, to the highest degree of ethical and professional standards.”

DepEd added that as teachers and public servants, “we must always champion a safe and nurturing learning environment for children, where physical, verbal, sexual and other forms of abuse and discrimination are renounced.”

Schools Division Office (SDO) of Pampanga confirmed that it has been receiving reports on the viral TikTok video of the teacher.

“We assure the public that our office exhausts all possible remedies to address this matter,” the SDO Pampanga said. “We have already coordinated with the proper parties/authorities to take down the said video,” it said.

“Everyone to observe the highest degree of professionalism including the use of social media.”

DepEd added it will continue to “strengthen its policies and capacity-building activities to further promote our advocacy of protecting our learners against abuse.”

In the viral TikTok video, a teacher wearing uniform dances and it captioned, “Pag dumaan ang cute na student mo, tamang pa-cute lang (when your cute student pass by, impress her.).”

Meanwhile, DepEd said it is ready to implement limited in-person classes that will begin on November 15 in selected schools in the country.

About 100 public schools and 20 private schools were allowed to participate in limited in-person classHowever, it. It only covers students in kindergarten, grades 1 to 3, and senior high school.
