DepEd needs 43,000 teachers – Gatchalian

Senator Win Gatchalian said the Department of Education (DepEd) needs 43,000 teachers for the school year 2020-2021.

According to the legislator, there are 3,200 displaced private school teachers due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which, if qualified, can be absorbed by DepEd.

The senator said most of the DepEd vacancies are from the National Capital Region and other highly urbanized areas such as Cebu and Davao.

Education Undersecretary for Legislative Affairs, External Partnerships and Project Management Service Tonisito Umali said in an interview on Dobol B as News TV that over 24 million students already enrolled.
