Curfew violator allegedly beaten to death by barangay guards in Calamba, Laguna

Some bystanders tried to stop the barangay watchmen from allegedly beating a curfew violator in Calamba, Laguna but the suspects did not let go, the victim’s brother said Monday.

The victim was identified as Ernanie Jimenez. His brother, Gledien said his brother left the house around 10 pm on Wednesday to buy food when the incident happened.

Barangay Turbina guards caught the curfew violator and allegedly beat him when he tried to escape.

“Tumakas po siya kasi gusto niya na po umuwi o kaya may mga pananakit nang ginagawa sa kapatid ko. Tapos ‘yong nakakita po, inawat ng nakakita, ‘yong taga-doon din po… inaawat na pero ‘di pa rin papigil. Tuloy pa rin sa pagbubugbog,” said Gledien in an interview with Teleradyo.

The incident happened Wednesday night but Ernanie died at Calamba Medical Center Hospital on Friday.

When Ernanie had a CT scan, his skull was found to be crushed, Gledien said.  “Noong pina-CT scan na po ‘yong kapatid ko, durog po ‘yong bao ng ulo niya…”

Gledien’s wife and Ernanie’s partner allegedly saw the four barangay guards beating the victim.

“‘Yong asawa ko po saka kinakasama, lumabas na po para tingnan at hanapin… pero ‘di po nila ‘to nakita tapos noong babalik na po sila sa bahay, ‘yon po nakita po nila ‘yong pangyayari na binubugbog ‘yong kapatid, sinisipa kaya po nabagok,” said Gledien.

“Bago mabagok, grabe na po tadyakin, bugbugin bago po makarating ho doon,” he said.

But according to Barangay Turbina representatives, Ernanie fell while being chased by barangay guards when he tried to escape.

The autopsy results on Ernanie’s body are not yet released.

According to Gledien, they are also ready to file a case against those responsible for his brother’s death.

Recently, a curfew violator was allegedly killed in General Trias, Cavite due to the severe punishment he received from the police.

Reichelyn Balce,  the live-in partner of the victim, Darren Peñaredondo, confirmed to  News Online that her partner’s died of “cerebrovascular infarct midbrain.”

However, she added that the antecedent cause of death was “hypertensive cardiovascular disease.”
