COVID-19 transmission in Cavite seen among family members, neighbors

Family members or neighbors in a compound often contract COVID-19 in some areas in Cavite, based on the observations of some doctors and officials.

At the Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital in Bacoor City, several family members or close contacts of COVID-19 patients were admitted.

“Kapag tinanong mo ‘yong contact tracing nila, mabilis talaga ang paghawa. Kumbaga sa pamilya, madalas may kasama sa pamilya, may dagdag na kapamilya [ang] nahahawa,” said Dr. Ana Maria Elena Gabuten, chief of clinics of the hospital.

Today, 90 percent of hospital beds are occupied.

In the town of Indang, families are seen to be positive in the 10 barangays identified as COVID-19 hotspots.

“‘Yong pattern ng transmission, pami-pamilya tapos halos talagang minsan compound. Doon lang talaga sa isang area naka-focus,” said Vernie Caisip, Indang Mayor’s Office consultant.

It is said that the number of new COVID-19 cases recorded in Indang has reached more than 20 every day in the past week, while there are already 237 active cases based on the record on Monday.

Cavite State University in Indang will also be used as a treatment and monitoring facility for COVID-19 cases.

This is after the isolation facilities of Oplan Kalinga, and Carmona Mega Isolation Facility were filled.

Family members were also found quarantined at an isolation facility in Imus with 183 patients.

The Department of Health had earlier said it had seen community transmission or spread of the more contagious Delta variant in Calabarzon, where Cavite is located.

According to data released by the Cavite Provincial Police Office, up to 45 Delta variant cases have been detected in Cavite, of which 1 died while 27 are recovering.

At the last record, there were 10,800 active cases in Cavite, the most in Bacoor City.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Cavite continues to rise as the Department of Health (DOH) says there may be community transmission of the more contagious Delta variant in Calabarzon.

According to the DOH on Monday, the number of  in the province has reached 10,114 while remaining “high risk,” or 75.1 percent of the beds in hospitals are occupied.
