COVID-19 home care package can decongest hospitals: DILG

The COVID-19 home care package developed by the Department of Health will greatly help decongest hospitals swamped by the increasing number of infections.

According to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año this Tuesday, they support the home care package for Filipinos with COVID-19 who can only recover at home.

“Maganda yan. Kasi sa kakulangan sa ating isolation facilities dahil tumaas yung numero, pinapayagan na rin yung ibang home quarantine. At kailangang meron din silang kaalaman at doon papasok yung ating Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams,” said Año.

In an interview with TeleRadyo, Año said the barangays are better aware of the situation in their area.

“Kung ikaw naman ay asymptomatic o kaya mild, at meron namang lugar sa bahay mo na mag-quarantine at mag-isolate ka, malaking tulong yan para mabawasan yung ating mga nasa isolation facilities at mailabas natin yung mga gumaling na galing ng hospitals at luluwag naman ang mga hospitals natin,” he said.

Vergeire said the COVID-19 home care kits will contain “basics” like vitamins and paracetamol and instructions on how to have medical consultation through telemedicine platforms.

“The Office of the President mismo ang nag-meeting sa amin tapos sabi nila, ‘yung home care package, gawin niyo ‘yan para ‘yung ating mga kababayan, if they wish to stay home or if they are asked to stay home, they are confident because they have this kit,” Vergeire said in an interview on ANC.

The  official said DOH is coordinating with Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) for funding the COVID-19 home care kits.

“It’s going to be linked to our financing mechanism through our social health insurance kaya medyo po nagtatagal tayo nang kaunti pero immediately naman po ang utos sa atin para maipatupad. Inaayos lang po natin ‘yung financing mechanism,” she said.
