COVID-19 cases in Calabarzon increase

Aside from Metro Manila, some areas in the Calabarzon region also saw an increase in OCTA Research Group’s COVID-19 cases.

From March 10 to 16, 49 new cases were recorded in Cainta, Rizal, equivalent to a 128 percent increase from last week’s cases.

“There’s been an increase, siguro 3 to 4 patients apart from what we normally had before. Dati 41 to 43 active cases lang kami, ngayon nasa 50 to 55 kami,” said Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto.

So far, Cainta has 54 active cases.

But Nieto insisted that the public has to go out to work so they are not reinstating the curfew right now.

Vaccination of health care workers in Cainta began on Wednesday.

Antipolo City, with 50 new cases this week, is also preparing for the expected increase in COVID-19 cases.

“Hindi naman kami nagpabaya. Hindi namin ibinaba ang guards namin in the implementation of COVID response,” said Enrilito Bernardo Jr., local disaster officer of Antipolo.

Meanwhile, Bacoor, Cavite appealed to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for help to increase the city’s isolation facilities.

From March 1 to 17, 544 people tested positive in the city.

Bacoor Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla called for a study on the implementation of another lockdown in Metro Manila and Cavite because it would not be effective if the lockdown was only in one area.

“Umiikot pa rin ang virus. Kailangan huminto. Opinion ko po ito, kailangan immediate na po itong pag-isipan ng ating IATF para mapahinto ang spread ng virus,” said Mercado.

In his Facebook post, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla said he opposes the implementation of boundary control at 19 borders or provincial borders.

According to Remulla, there are about 200,000 people coming and going in and out of Cavite for work, apart from the tourism industry.

In Lipa City, 44 new cases were recorded on Thursday, which is why the curfew will continue from 10 pm to 5 am.
