Number of COVID-19 cases in Bacolod, Dumaguete rising

According to the OCTA Research Group, the number of COVID-19 cases is rising in some areas in the Visayas.

Bacolod City and Iloilo City in Western Visayas and Dumaguete City in Central Visayas are leading, said Dr. Guido David.

“Sa Bacolod, tumataas pa rin. Sa Dumaguete, mabilis ‘yong pagtaas kaya concerned tayo kasi mataas na rin ‘yong hospital utilization nila. Halos puno na ‘yong ICU nila,” he told Teleradyo on Thursday.

“Pero ‘yong trend sa Iloilo City, medyo nag-slow down na so we hope na ma-continue ‘yong slowing down,” the epxpert added.

According to the Department of Health on Wednesday, Bacolod City recorded 92 new cases of COVID-19 while 103 cases in Iloilo City.

A total of 48 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Dumaguete City, according to Dumaguete City’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

In total, there were 10,590 cases of COVID-19 in Bacolod City of Negros Occidental of which 276 died from the disease. Iloilo City had 8,846 recorded infections of which 220 died of COVID-19.

David also said that the number of COVID-19 cases declines in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces where it is already recording at least 1,000 infections per day.

“No’ng peak ng surge, naga-average tayo ng more than 10,000 or 11,000 cases per day. More than half nasa NCR Plus,” he said.

“Sa ngayon naman, hindi natin masasabi na hindi nag-improve sa NCR kasi pababa ‘yong kaso. In fact, naga-average tayo ng less than 1,000 na sa NCR. Ibig sabihin nito, hindi na dito talaga ‘yong pinakamataas na hawaan,” David added.

Meanwhile, strict restrictions against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will be imposed throughout the province of Aklan, in the face of the increase in COVID-19 cases, based on the executive order issued by Governor Florencio Miraflores.

Aklan is currently under modified general community quarantine – the loosest of the four quarantine levels implemented by the government for the COVID -19 response.
