Chinese vessel allegedly drops 1 kg of cocaine found floating in Basilan waters

Basilan fishers fished out 1 kg of cocaine in Hadji Mohammad Adjul seas, Basilan, Monday morning.

The suspected cocaine brick weighs more than a kilo and has an estimated worth of P6 million.

Mohammad Ajul, Basilan Mayor Ibrahim Ballajo said the fishermen found the cocaine brick wrapped in transparent plastic. They recovered the illegal drugs between Langil and Linungan islands in Mohammad Ajul town, 8 a.m. Monday, September 23.

The fishermen fished out the cocaine brick on their way home and handed it to Ballajo. Ballajo then immediately reported the incident to Police Colonel Rufino Inot (Basilan police director) for proper disposition and investigation.

Basilan mayor believes that a Chinese vessel passing through their waters have dropped the cocaine. Mohammad Ajul town waters were considered as a major shipping lane.

Mayor Ballajo offers a P10,000 cash reward for anyone who can recover illegal drugs from Mohammad Ajul waters.

The rewards system was the municipality’s move against illegal drug entry. They also want to prevent their municipal waters from becoming a cocaine brick drop-off point.
