Curfew continues even after Bayanihan Act expired

The curfews are still in effect even after Republic Act 11469 or Bayanihan to Heal as One Act ended.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, even after the Bayanihan Act is over, the National Government cannot stop addressing the COVID-19 problem.

Roque announced this following Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon’s comment that the government could no longer enforce curfews and ban mass gatherings since the Bayanihan Act has expired.

Roque reiterated that the ordinances issued by local government units regarding curfews are still effective.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo also said Drilon’s statement was dangerous and encouraged citizens to disturb and destroy the country’s peace.

“Senator Drilon’s comments with respect thereto, and with due respect to him, are not only misplaced but it dangerously encourages citizens to engage in acts detrimental to the safety and security of the populace, as well as the peace and order of the nation,” said Panelo.
