China can turn off Philippines’ electricity- Sen. Recto

Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto laid down the possibility that China could turn off the Philippines’ electricity even if they do not go to the country.

At the Senate hearing on the Department of National Defense’s budget proposal, Recto raised the issue of security as several percentages of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is now owned by China.

Sen.Panfilo Lacson agreed with Recto and said that based on his report, NGCP equipment arrived with Chinese characters written on it. Chinese personnel also operates the machine.

Recto said this was his concern because the Filipino people do not understand the Chinese characters.

“That’s the point I was gonna drive at. Right now, yung buong kuryente ng Pilipinas, ang nagpapatakbo, state grid of China, all the equipment is written in Chinese, hindi naiintindihan ng mag tao natin. They can turn it off remotely. Ang giyera naman na darating ganun na eh,” said Recto.

Recto also pointed out that Chinese companies in the Philippines could have a conspiracy because they already entered the electricity and even the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

It is worth noting that the AFP and Dito Telecommunity Corp., formerly Mislatel, had a memorandum of agreement for the construction of communication towers in military camps.
