Children’s lack of exercise alarming – pediatric expert

One expert is concerned that she has observed a lack of exercise among children now that they are not allowed to leave their homes due to the pandemic.

According to Dr. Cynthia Cuayo-Juico, a member of the Philippine Pediatric Society, parents also seem to be less vigilant if children’s eating habits are correct.

“Tama ba iyong taba nila o overweight na sila?” said Juico in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

When a child becomes obese, it is said that he or she can develop various diseases such as hypertension or diabetes.

According to the doctor, parents should give their children time and pay attention to whether they are eating right, whether they are getting enough sleep, and are having the right habits in this pandemic.

She also said it would be good if parents make a schedule that their children can follow.

Parents also need to talk to their children, Juico said.

“Siguraduhin mong ikaw rin, kailangan mong ma-express kung ano iyong nasa loob mo and the child, ma-express din niya kung anong nasa loob niya,” the doctor said.

In this way, children will no longer have to leave their house to find someone to talk to and take care of them.

This week, students in public schools are on a break while teachers are in training.

Children in Metro Manila not allowed to go out for 2 weeks

Minors in Metro Manila would not be allowed to go out for two weeks starting March 17, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Tuesday.

Only individuals aged 18 to 65 years old are now allowed to go outside their residences.

The Metro Manila Council is drafting a resolution for stricter measures amid the increasing of COVID-19 cases daily.

Only “authorized persons outside residence” (APOR) and those with medical emergencies may leave the house during the curfew.

Others exempted from curfew:
1. Health workers coming in or out of work
2. Government workers entering or leaving work
3. Food services staff and delivery of essential goods
4. Funeral workers

In a separate interview with TeleRadyo, National Capital Region Police Office chief Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao said that they will enforce maximum tolerance in enforcing the curfew.
