A Cessna 152-type trainer aircraft had to make an emergency landing, ditching the aircraft some 500 meters from the shoreline in Calapan Airport on Monday.
The Philippine Civil Aviation Authority said the C-152 aircraft, operated by Sapphire International Aviation Academy, was conducting a touch-and-go flight procedure when it encountered a malfunction.
The aircraft had the captain, and student on-board when the incident happened.
An investigation into the matter shows that the airplane dropped 140-feet before hitting the ground – the two occupants were taken to a nearby hospital where they are listed in stable condition.
Calapan Airport is a class #2 type airport handling smaller aircraft and helicopters with regular trips from the Old Manila Domestic Airport.
Authorities said the school’s other aircraft has been suspended until the results of an investigation is completed.
