‘Carrot Man’ Jeyrick Sigmaton wins best actor in Manhattan international film festival

Jeyrick Sigmaton, or better known as “Carrot Man,” won as best actor for short film at the International Film Festival Manhattan Autumn 2021 in New York.

Jeyrick starred in the short film “Dayas,” featuring the lives of small-scale miners in Itogon, Benguet. It was directed and written by Cordilleran director Jianlin Floresca and produced by Sine Cordillera and Be Unrivaled Productions.

“We’re very thankful to have the best actor award for Jeyrick Sigmaton. So in behalf of my actor and the entire cast of Sine Cordillera ‘Dayas,’ and also in behalf of all Igorots all over the world, bagi tayo daytoy (sa ating lahat ito),” said director Jianlin in his gratitude to the film festival.

“Dayas” (Sine Cordillera) is a short film that aims to showcase the Igorot culture and local talents.

“This film is very timely about the hashtag Igorot challenge before pandemic meron na talagang movie na supposed to be na I produce the thing is sometimes opportunities comes na biglaan, now nabigyan kami ng opportunity and then kahit na in a short period of time we wanted to show what can Igorot genuine talent can do,” said Dayas director Jianlin Floresca.

“ekasakto rin ito na sana mapanood ng DepEd upang siguro maunawaan at maging malinaw sa kanila ng magkaron ng isyu tungkol sa mga modules na mga kakailyan pa na Igorots ang diniin sa ginawang hindi magandang mga halimbawa at upang mai correct rin ang stereotypes sa modules, kaya ito na ang panahon na magiging sagot that we could show the entire world on what is real culture of the Cordillera,” she added.

It will be remembered that netizens were shocked by the heartthrob-like pictures of Jeyrick of Kadaclan, Mountain Province, lifting carrots.

After Carrot Man’s photos became viral, Jeyrick Sigmaton became a model and a singer. TV host Willie Revillame also gave him a full scholarship in 2016.
