Candidates who say they came from poverty no longer appeal to the voters, a political analyst said Sunday.
According to Froilan Calilung, who teaches political science at the University of Santo Tomas, this is because those who run for high positions used to do it.
Calilung also listed the “winning factor” of some who have declared to run for the presidency and some well-known names for the presidency.
According to Calilung, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso has a strong social media presence, in addition to the strong online presence of his counterpart Dr. Willie Ong.
This is also the right time for Sen. Manny Pacquiao while his name is still hotly debated, especially in the field of boxing.
Although not an opposition, Sen. Panfilo Lacson is also a good alternative for voters, according to Calilung.
Lacson had earlier announced that he would run for the presidency as a teammate of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who will run for vice president.
If there is any opposition, Vice President Leni Robredo is clearly its face, Calilung said.
Although Robredo was late in the surveys, he said, it was not new to him because when he ran as vice president, he was also on the sidelines of the survey but was able to win.

“The political landscape is getting interesting and exciting,” said Calilung.
“I think now we are just waiting for VP Leni Robredo if ever she will be joining and also [Davao] Mayor Sara Duterte… this will heighten the plot as we go along, kapag nagdeklara sila,” he added.
Sara Duterte had earlier said that she will run again as mayor of Davao City.
But the presidential daughter’s actions show that she is touring the country and meeting with regional leaders and voters, Calilung said.
Calilung, on the other hand, believes that it is difficult for the opposition to have a single candidate because those who declared for the 2022 elections are already determined to run.
The first week of October is set for the filing of certificates of candidacy for those who want to run in the next election.
