Camp of slain Calbayog City mayor believes shooting was an ambush

The family of the slain Calbayog City mayor became even more suspicious that he was actually ambushed and not just “mistaken” as the police say.

On Wednesday, an autopsy of the body of Calbayog City Mayor Ronaldo Aquino revealed that the policemen they encountered at the Labuyao bridge on Monday had actually shot the mayor multiple times.

The mayor’s son admitted that he could no longer see the initial results of the autopsy so only his father’s close friends mentioned to him the injuries sustained by the victim.

“Sabi niya po, sa bilang niya po, kalahati pa lang po ng katawan ng papa ko, ang nabibilang na tama ng bala is 21 na po,” said Mark Aquino.

Most of the wounds was on his father’s head and chest. The family’s suspicion that the ambush actually took place intensified.

He said they had witnesses who said that after the white van driven by his father collided, 7 people got out of 2 other vehicles carrying high caliber guns and continued to shoot at the father’s vehicle.

“Bale 3 wave po ang pagbaril nila sa Papa ko, una po 4 na tao ang bumaril, and then nu’ng naubos po ang bala, nag-change mag po sila, tapos ‘yung 3 naman po ang bumaril,” said Mark.

He also said that one of the vehicles left at the crime scene, was spotted a week ago going back and forth in the area where the mayor often passes by.

They are still wondering, why the deceased policeman is not in uniform if the purpose of the operation is legitimate in the area.

They also had information that cops were waiting on both sides of the bridge and when his vehicle was approaching, the alleged policemen wore a bonnet.

He also said that they could not believe what the police said that they did not recognize the mayor was inside the white van because it belonged to the local government of Calbayog.

They are still wondering why the plate number on the front and back of the police vehicle is different.

The police insisted that a mistaken encounter happened to Aquino and they have formed a special investigation task group to investigate it.
