Business dispute suspected as Indian moneylender shot dead in Cebu City

An Indian money lender was shot dead in Lapu-Lapu City Monday, with police looking at a business dispute as a possible motive.

Police said victim Jaswinter Singh Gill had already been the target of an attempted killing in 2012, GMA Cebu reported Tuesday.

“Sa history niya, may balak talaga siyang patayin dahil three years ago binaril na siya at ngayon inulit,” said homicide investigator PO2 Joseph Cutanda.

Investigators said the victim was into the lending business, and could have had disputes with those he dealt with.

Gill’s wife Maretes said she thought at first her husband had figured in a motorcycle accident. It turned out he had been shot.

“Merong nagbalita sa akin na nadisgrasya raw. Akala ko dahil nakainom siya pero marami ng dugo yun pala binaril na naman siya,” she said.

“Ang duda ko isa sa mga suki niya dahil minsan pinagagalitan niya sila dahil syempre pera rin yun,” she added.

In 2012, an unidentified assailant shot Gill in the stomach, wounding him.
