Bureau of Immigration New Rules for Deportation to Be Released Soon – www.plnmedia.com

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has announced it will be implementing a list of consolidated rules for deportation proceedings in November, 2015.

Under the new rules, a ‘regular’ deportation case should be resolved in 60 days, on average.

Atty. Elaine Tan, BI spokesman, said the new rules were contained in Memorandum Circular No. SBM-2015-010 and would be implemented after it was published on October 24.

Officials said that while the rules were not exactly new to the BI, they believe that the system has been ‘regularly observed.’

The Omnibus Rules of Procedure of 2015 now have “specific” timeframes for every office to process each step in the deportation proceedings.

Tan said that the purpose of the new rules was to ensure accountability throughout the BI and its staff to promote transparency.
