British citizen arrested under two-year-old theft warrant in Zamboanga

Ali Mukta Zahid, aged 53, was arrested at his home this morning. No details have been given about the nature of the charges against him.

A British citizen has been arrested for theft in the Zamboanga Sibugay town of Ipil, it has been announced.

Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup, regional police director, identified the arrested suspect as Ali Mukta Zahid, aged 53.

Zahid was arrested at his home in Purok Palmera at about 7.45am today (Tuesday, November 13) under a two-year-old warrant, Cf. Supt. Licup said. A bail of 40,000 pesos has been recommended for his temporary liberty.

Cf. Supt. Licup said the suspect had previously been arrested for “reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injury and damage to property”. The warrant for this arrest was issued on November 9, 2015.

No details have been given about any alleged thefts linked to today’s arrest.

Zahid is detained at the Ipil Municipal Police Station pending his bail hearing.
