A British child abuser who filmed himself having sex with a Filipino girl aged under five is facing jail.

Timothy Smith, aged 42 from Tunbridge Wells, admitted saving videos of the abuse on his computer, after repeatedly exploiting his victim in 2015.

Smith also had at least 37,000 still indecent images of children, many which were classed as ‘category A’ — the most serious.

KentOnline reported that Smith pleaded guilty to 16 separate charges relating to various sex offences at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday (November 9).

These also included the sexual assault of another victim in 2013 and making and sharing thousands of indecent images of children.

The extent of Smith’s crimes became apparent following an initial Kent Police investigation into suspicious online activity at his home in Burslem Road.

On November 4 last year, a search warrant was executed at the address by officers from the Paedophile On-Line Investigation Team.

Smith was arrested and a number of items of computer hardware were seized.

Smith confessed to searching, saving and sharing indecent images of children, telling officers it was “his thing”.

Forensic checks by police were carried out on the items seized from Smith’s home, which included two laptops and a USB hard drive.

He was found to have stored videos of child abuse with a combined playback time of two days and nine hours.

Mark Dacey, defending, said Smith knew he needed help and was “waiting for the knock on the door”. He had been seen in the past by a psychologist, he added.

He has been bailed and will be sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on December 15.

Granting bail, Judge David Griffith-Jones QC said: “A sentence of immediate imprisonment is inevitable.”

Smith was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register.

Detective constable Mark Bennett of Kent Police’s Paedophile Online investigation Team said: “The offences Smith committed are a stark reminder that behind every image is a real tale of abuse and suffering.

“I am glad he has at least owned up to his crimes and will now face the consequences for his deplorable actions.”
