Bongbong Marcos to run for national post in 2022

Former senator and son of dictator Ferdinand, “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., confirmed his plans to run for a national post in the year 2022.

However, he has yet to decide what position to run.

“My plan is I will be a candidate next election,” he said at a news forum hosted by the National Press Club. “For what, we still have to decide.”

He said he listened to the advice of former senator and businessman Manny Villar and the example of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

But I will not forget the advice of [former] Sen. Manny Villar after [he lost] the election: don’t make the same mistake I did of announcing my bid early,” Bongbong said in a mix of English and Filipino.

He added: “Whatever it is, I will enter a national campaign.”

Marcos is currently questioning his defeat to Vice President Leni Robredo, saying fraud may have occurred.

Meanwhile, Robredo has also called on the Supreme Court, which sits as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, to abolish Marcos’ electoral protest.

He said Marcos was shown to have no “substantial recovery” from the pilot provinces he chose in connection with the recount of the May 2016 national elections.

These provinces include Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental.

“Nakakalungkot na, it took over three years,” Marcos added on Friday.

“Papaano ba tayo magsasabi na maayos ang ating pamahalaan, maayos ang ating pagpapatakbo kung tatlong taon na, hindi pa natin nalalaman nang mabuti kung sino ba talaga ang nanalo bilang bise presidente?” Marcos said.

NPC Vice President Paul Gutierrez called Bongbong the “true VP.”
