Bongbong Marcos ‘definitely running for 2022’ – spox

The spokesperson of former Senator Bongbong Marcos said Wednesday that the former senator and son of dictator Ferdinand Marcos would run in the 2022 elections.

“He will be definitely running for 2022,” Atty. Vic Rodriguez made the announcement in an interview on ANC.

However, Rodriguez did not disclose the position Bongbong is targeting.

“We will be making an announcement as to his plans for 2022,” he said in a separate interview on CNN-Philippines.

In January 2020, Marcos confirmed his plans to run for a national post in the year 2022.

“My plan is I will be a candidate next election,” he then said at a news forum hosted by the National Press Club. “For what, we still have to decide.”

He said he listened to the advice of former senator and businessman Manny Villar and the example of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

But I will not forget the advice of [former] Sen. Manny Villar after [he lost] the election: don’t make the same mistake I did of announcing my bid early,” Bongbong said in a mix of English and Filipino.

He added: “Whatever it is, I will enter a national campaign.”

Yesterday, the Supreme Court (SC) has sealed as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) the victory of Leni as vice president in the 2016 elections after the magistrates dismissed the protest of Bongbong Marcos.

According to SC spokesperson Brian Hosaka on Tuesday, the magistrates vote “unanimous” to dismiss Marcos’ protest filed on June 29, 2016, to invalidate Robredo’s victory.

Of the 15 magistrates who attended the meeting, Hosaka said seven were “fully concurred” with the decision to dismiss the protest, and others agreed.

The decision will be posted on the SC website.

The Palace said they respect the SC’s decision.

“‘Yan ay desisyon ng Kataas-taasang Hukuman. We respect that,” said presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

“We respect also that the camp of (former) senator Bongbong Marcos has a further remedy of moving for reconsideration,” he added.
