Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said he might run for president in 2022 if President Rodrigo Duterte would run for vice president in the 2022 elections.
“Magbabago lang siguro ang isip ko kung tatakbong Vice President si Pangulong Duterte,” Go, Duterte’s most trusted aide for years, said in a statement Thursday night.
(I may change my mind if President Rodrigo Duterte will run for vice president.)
Some of the members of Duterte’s party want him to runs for vice president in the 2022 elections.
At least 20 members of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan party have signed a resolution urging Duterte to run for vice president. They even changed their party’s logo and included Duterte’s iconic “iron fist.”
Meanwhile, Bong Go said that Duterte was only joking when he said that he wants to the next president of the Philippines.
“I am very grateful for the trust given to me by the President. Salamat po sa tiwala pero alam naman po ng Pangulo na hindi talaga ako interesado. Biro lang ng Pangulo iyon,” Go said.
(Thank you for the trust but the President knows that I’m not really interested. He is just joking.)
Bong Go to run for president if Duterte will be his vice president
“Ang focus ko, mula noon hanggang ngayon, ay ang magserbisyo sa kapwa kong Pilipino. Please count me out sa usaping pulitika sa 2022,” Bong Go added.
(Since then, my focus is to serve my fellow Filipinos. Please count me out on talks about politics in 2022.)
“Sabi niya medyo it leaves a bad taste in the mouth, malayo pa e, pero ikaw na lang ang magsabi sa kanila,” Duterte said.
“Sabihin ko, ang totoo talaga, isang bagay lang, sabihin daw sa inyo, gusto niya maging Presidente.”
(He said it slightly leaves a bad taste in the mouth, it’s still far away, but be the one to tell them. I said, in truth, just one thing, he said to tell you that wants to be President.)
