Board member allegedly punched admin, splashed water on LGU officials in Sorsogon

A consultation in Irosin town, Sorsogon, on Friday regarding the province’s Anti-COVID-19 information caravan ended in chaos.

This was after Provincial Board member Ed Atutubo allegedly splashed water on Municipal Councilor Salome Navales. The confrontation took root after the two exchanged words regarding the purpose of the information caravan.

The councilor asked if there was another way to discontinue the information caravan in their town, especially those aged 10-17 years targeted to be given information against COVID-19.

Atutubo stressed that the information caravan they are conducting is following Executive Order Number 12 issued by Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero on May 3, where he ordered the formation of the COVID-19 task force on information dissemination to provide sufficient knowledge to the youth in the province on what to do to prevent infection or contagion against COVID-19.

He said the allegation that he splashed water on the councilor was untrue. He said he only came here to show pictures of some residents in the town who do not follow the enforced health protocols and that the water in the bottled water he was holding was accidentally thrown on the councilor’s clothes.

But the commotion did not end when Atutubo allegedly punched the town’s municipal administrator Lorenzo Ubalde.

According to Ubalde, he tapped the board member on the shoulder and said his behavior was ugly. But Atutubo suddenly punched him.

Atutubo admitted to punching but said he was not the first to punch.

He clarified that the information caravan he is conducting has nothing to do with early politics or campaigning, so there is no reason to question the purpose of the caravan.

Ubalde and Atutubo allegedly made peace with each other, while Navales filed a blotter and reported the incident to the DILG.

The Sangguniang Bayan has not yet decided whether to continue conducting the information caravan after the incident.
