Biden’s victory beneficial to Philippines – political analysts

Some political analysts believe that Biden’s victory will benefit the Philippines.

As the longest and strongest ally of the Philippines, it is said that the relationship between the Philippines and the United States will be strengthened because Biden values democracy.

As a Democrat, the Biden administration may investigate the alleged extrajudicial killings and human rights violations under the Duterte administration.

“Ang core belief ay demokrasya. Part of this is ‘yong basic issue of human rights. Diyan maari[ng] magkaroon ng kaunting confict kung iangat ang issue na ‘yon,” said analyst Dindo Manhit.

On the West Philippine Sea issue, Manhit believes that the United States will uphold the Philippines’ victory over the disputed territory because one of the principles of the Democratic Party is to respect the international rule of law.

“Malambot sila noon kasi naniniwala sila na China will be a good global citizen,” said Manhit.

Biden’s victory served as a trigger for Filipino netizens to call on their countrymen to register to vote in the upcoming elections in 2022.

President Rodrigo Duterte extended his congratulations to Biden.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte recognizes Biden as the next president of the United States.
