Beach party at a resort in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu under probe

The mayor of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, ordered an investigation into the beach party held at a resort for alleged possible violation of health protocols.

On Tuesday, Lou-Anne Mae Rondina reported on GMA Regional TV News that the beach party took place at the Karancho beach resort in Barangay Maribago, in the said city.

The beach party happened in conjunction with the city festival on Saturday.

According to Mayor Junard Ahong Chan, festivals are allowed in the city like the banquet, but health protocols must still be followed.

The mayor allegedly ordered the police to investigate the incident to hold those responsible accountable.

Although the mayor is pleased with the high vaccination rate in the city, he worries that the case of their COVID-19 may rise again as the public becomes complacent.

Chan warns that even those vaccinated can still be infected with the virus, so they must still be careful.

Based on the data, 91.16 percent of the city’s population has already been given the first dose of the vaccine, and 64.53 percent have received the second dose.

As of November 21, Lapu-Lapu City has 43 active cases.

Nagiel Banacia, Crisis Manager of the city, advised those who attended the beach party to see immediately or call the COVID-19 hotline of Lapu-Lapu city at 0999-972-1111 if they feel any symptoms of the disease.

Meanwhile, the event manager of Karancho beach resort Dino Amores, announced that they followed health protocols.

This includes requiring attendees to wear a face mask. The party was also held in the open area, and the guests were vaccinated.

According to the event manager, more than 100 people attended the beach party.

“Yung tables kasi na inilagay naman, they were’nt that close. Sa dami lang talaga ng nag-attend, tapos yung nag-e-enjoy talaga sila, it was hard to control. But yun, we kept on reminding them,” he explained.
