The militant group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, otherwise known as Bayan, is demanding the pullout of US Marines stationed in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
The Marines arrived last Wednesday to train Special Action Forces and members of the allied forces here.
Bayan-Negros secretary general Christian Tuayon said the US troops may violate the human rights of activists, especially those thought of as terrorists.
The SAF and allied forces will secure the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in Sagay City.
The US troops will be in Sagay City for 45 days and train member of the 6th SAF Battalion as well as those of the Negros Occidental Police Office and regional public safety battalion.
The APEC meeting in Sagay will be held April 29-30 – the SAF will be trained not only to secure the meeting, they will also be taught in anti-terrorism, mission planning and anti-insurgency tactics.
At least 700 foreign and national delegates are expected to attend the APEC meeting in April.
The Bayan group expresed concerns that the US troops are here for other hidden reasons and not just to train the SAF and police.
