Bato: Tarlac killer cop deserves death penalty

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said Jonel Nuezca or known as Tarlac killer cop deserves the death penalty for killing his unarmed neighbors in Paniqui, Tarlac.

“Yes, I believe in my heart, alam ko dapat death penalty ang parusa sa kaniya dahil very cold-blooded killing… I don’t see any enough provocation on the part of the victims. Sobra-sobra ang ginawa niya,” Dela Rosa said in an interview on ANC.

The former PNP chief also believes that Nuezca was a drug addict. The Tarlac killer cop was suspended in 2014 for refusing to undergo a drug test.

“He was already charged for already evading drug testing so meaning adik ‘yung tao na ‘yun. Bakit ka umiiwas sa drug testing kung ‘di ka adik?” Dela Rosa said.

“‘Yung ganu’n na action, sigurado ako apektado sa drugs ang utak nu’ng tao na ‘yun. Hindi man siya high that time, ‘yung kaniyang decision-making apektado sa pagte-take ng droga,” he added.

Dela Rosa also renewed his calls for the revival of the death penalty in the Philippines.

“Ayaw nila ng death penalty eh! ‘Yung ginawa ng pulis na cold-blooded killing is double murder and a heinous crime na dapat ang parusa ay death penalty pero hanggang ngayon hirap na hirap pa ring umusad ‘yung in-author kong death penalty bill,” Dela Rosa said.

Dela Rosa believes that capital punishment could deter killings.

“Sino pa ang gustong pumatay ng tao kung alam niyang papatayin din siya via death penalty?” Dela Rosa said.

In August, Gordon said he would not let Senator Dela Rosa lead the hearings on the apital punishment bill, calling the former PNP chief “biased.”

Meanwhile, Dela Rosa also denied that there is a culture of impunity in the PNP.

“Tell me, kung sino from the President down to the lowest level of command, sino bang nagsasabi na patayin, patayin, patayin ‘yang mga ganiyan? Wala. You use your firearms if the situation calls for na kailangan gumamit ka ng armas,” he said.

“Iba yun! Iba ‘yung legitimate na drug operations, iba ‘yung kay Nuezca… Personal niya ‘yun. It’s not a police operation,” he added.
