Barbara Gibb, mother of the Bee Gees, dead at 95

The mother of one of the most famous music groups in history has died at her home in Hollywood, Florida.

Barbara Gibb passed away on Friday, August 12 – she was 95.

Barbara was born in Manchester, England on November 17, 1920 – she married Hugh Gibb, with whom she had five children including Barry, Robin, Maurice and Andy as well as a daughter Lesley.

Barry Gibb’s publicist issued a statement saying that she ‘was with family and friends when she died.’

Barbara lived in Miami, Florida for the past 20 years.

Together Barbara and Hugh Gibbs managed their son’s early careers – the Bee Gees went on to sell over 200 million records worldwide, as well as Andy who had a highly successful solo career with several top 10 singles.

Barbara Gibb lost three of her five children during her lifetime – Andy who died in 1988 at the age of 30 from a heart condition myocarditis – Maurice who died in 2003 at age 53 due to complications of a twisted intestine, and Robin who died in 2012 at the age of 62 from liver and kidney failure after battling cancer.

So far funeral arrangement have remained private.
