Many areas in Oriental Mindoro were flooded due to the incessant rains caused by the wind and shear line.
Since Monday morning, 8 barangays in Naujan town have been flooded.
According to Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) head Joery Gelario, the Tubig River overflowed, so it flooded quickly.
The barangays of San Andres and Masagana are also isolated.
According to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, the number of families evacuated due to severe flooding has reached 581 in Baco town.
They are from the barangays of Burbuli, Catuwiran 2, Malapad, Mangangan 1 and 2, Mayabig, Poblacion, Sta. Cruz, Sta. Rosa 1, and Tagumpay.
According to Baco Vice Mayor Eric Castillo, 70 to 80 percent of Baco Municipality is affected by flooding due to incessant rain and shear lines.
It is said that the flooding started just in the morning due to the water coming from the mountains.
“Umaga pa lang kanina ay nagsimula ang tumaas yung tubig dito sa amin. Nag-peak po siya ng paglaki doon sa mga loob naming area kanina pong lunchtime. Ang siste lang po kasi nito, galing po sa mga bulubundukin namin, pababa po ang tubig papunta sa kabayanan hanggang sa papunta sa coastal area namin so ang nangyayari po, maliit ang tubig sa inner, sa sentro po at palabas ng coastal area ay palaki naman po yung tubig,” said Castillo.

“Almost 70-80% po ng barangay natin ay affected na out of the 27 barangays,” the mayor added.
He also said that other barangays have started to lose power supply because it is more dangerous if they remain without power supply while the floods do not subside.
Castillo also ensured that the needs of the displaced residents would be met.
“The barangay will serve them first and then tomorrow po kung may pangangailangan na sa augmemtation galing sa LGU, we will provide doon sa natitirang pondo,” he added.
“Mas mahalaga po na lalo na at gumagabi na, manatili na lang po sila sa kani-kanilang bahay kung ito po ay mataas na lugar. Kung papunta po sa coastal area namin like yung sentro po yung Poblacion, ito pong papunta ng Catuwiran, Malapad, at Putican, yan po yung tinitigilan ng tubig, maging ready po sila at kung maaari po magpunta sa mataas na lugar para po hindi na tayo magkaproblema sa paglilikas sa kanila,” Castillo reminded.
