The Austrian government has opened a new honorary consular office in Davao City.
Austria’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Josef Müllner, said: “We consider Davao as the Philippines’ third most important city; we already have representatives in Manila and Cebu years back, now is the time for Davao.”
The move also strengthen ties with incoming President Rodrigo Duterte by having a representative in his home city.
Müllner is also said to have sent a letter of request for an appointment to the Chief-of-Staff of the incoming president.
“We are hoping that he could see us tonight or tomorrow for the meeting so we could discuss the details of our plans,” said Müllner.
Davao-based Austrian Dr Peter Faistauer will serve as honorary consul.
The newly-opened honorary office is on the second floor of ‘The Shoppes’ commercial building on Diversion Road.
