Tributes have been paid to an Australian English teacher who was found dead in his Angeles City condominium.

Frederick Charles Abrey Lemmone, aged 71, originally from Perth, was a teacher at the Clarke Institute of the Philippines.

Senior Superintendent Enrico Vargas of Angeles City police said his death was discovered by a former colleague, who was concerned after Mr Lemmone failed to answer a text message.

Brendan MacCarthy, an American teacher aged 34, then went to Mr Lemmone’s home in Barangay Balibago where he discovered his friend’s body.

The cause of death is unknown, although investigating officers say they found various medicines for hypertension in the apartment.

Writing on Facebook, Fred’s daughter Carly, said: “It is with much sadness that I wish to advise that my dad has passed last Thursday in the Philippines.”

A notice of death posted on the Western Australian newspaper’s website reads: “Passed away suddenly in the Phillipines aged 71. Much loved Brother of Coralie, Brother-in-law of Brian, Uncle to Justin and Brett. Now at rest.”

In response, friends of Mr Lemmone, Alan and Lyn Beard wrote: “Fond memories of a friendship and racing fun over five decades. Rest in peace.”

Another friend, Rob Roberts, also paid tribute on Facebook. He wrote: “A very sad day for us. One of my best friends in the Philippines passed away.”

Writing in response, John Kemmy said: “Fred was the essence of what is means to be a gentleman.”

As well as 34 years of teaching experience, Mr Lemmone, an honours graduate in Geography and Cartography of the University of Western Australia, also had a background in hospitality and management.

The Clarke Institute of the Philippines is a private English language school that caters to students from countries such as Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Russia and others.

Mr Lemmone had been a popular and respected teacher at the school since 2013.
